Laura C. Kane-Punyon joined The Kane Firm in 2013, returning to Buffalo, NY after spending seven years in the NYC area. While away, Laura held the roles of client and project manager in the hedge fund and economic consulting industries. In these capacities, she regularly led firms in large-scale technology implementations as well as efficiency improvement/monitoring of complex operational processes. Laura developed an expertise in converting inefficient “silo” department cultures into highly effective teams proudly accountable to one another.
At The Kane Firm, Laura has stepped into the role of practice manager. In this capacity, Laura’s focus is to build a platform that allows accountants to effectively provide services in their fields of expertise while creating an enjoyable and challenging work environment.
Laura also supports clients with a wide range of consulting services, including improving operational systems and controls, executing strategic projects, building cost models and obtaining tax exempt status for not-for-profit organizations.
In addition to The Kane Firm, Laura serves as a spokesperson for Column of Hope, a world leader in medical research of progressive neurological disorders – Chiari malformation and syringomyelia. She holds a B.S. from SUNY College at Geneseo.
Mathew S. Kane, MS, CPA enjoys working closely with clients’ internal accountants. Specifically, Mathew coaches internal accountants in most aspects of accounting. On a monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual basis, Mathew reviews the financial statements prepared by clients’ internal accountants; offering advice to improve accuracy, efficiency, and transparency. Start-up clients seek Mathew’s help in setting up accounting systems as well as implementing preventative and detective internal controls. The majority of Mathew’s accounting systems experience lies in QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, and Sage 50. Mathew often utilizes screen share software to assist clients in troubleshooting accounting system issues. Similarly, Mathew mentors The Kane Firm’s staff in the areas of bookkeeping and communication.
Mathew also assists clients in performing due diligence during purchase transactions. Mathew dissects financials to identify key issues and questions to be asked of sellers. Mathew’s ultimate goal is to minimize the risk of his clients through a thorough understanding of the story behind the numbers.
Mathew graduated from SUNY College at Geneseo with a bachelor’s in accounting and the University at Buffalo with a master’s in accounting, internal audit concentration.
Mark S. Kane, CPA has been practicing in Williamsville, NY since 1987. His practice focuses on increasing business owner wealth and organizational effectiveness. The Kane Firm serves as accountants and consultants to several national and regional businesses and professionals. Consulting engagements include both privately held companies and divisions of NYSE companies. The firm also serves a diverse client base in the medical, bio tech, information tech, manufacturing, distribution, and retail arenas. The Kane Firm team includes professionals with a wide range of accounting, tax and business experience. The Kane Firm is well known in Western New York for its success in assisting companies in strategic, operational and administrative roles.
During the mid to late 1990s, Mark maintained a minority interest and held vice presidential positions in sales, operations and finance for a $100 million national auto parts manufacturer and distributor. In these capacities, he achieved extraordinary growth in revenue and profits from developing partnerships with customers and suppliers which reduced costs and added value in the supply chain.
Mark has also served in chief negotiator or chief advisor capacities on over $225 million of business equity and debt transactions. In recent years, Mark has leveraged his diverse experience in operations and finance in order to assist several emerging businesses, primarily in the scientific and technical arenas.
In addition to The Kane Firm, Mark serves on boards of directors and advisory board roles for several diverse entities including an emerging East Coast software architecture firm and Column of Hope, an extraordinarily successful national, health-related charitable organization. Mark holds a B.S. from SUNY College at Geneseo, where he has served as member of the alumni board of directors and has earned his MBA from SUNY at Buffalo.
