The Kane Firm is devoted to supporting Column of Hope (www.columnofhope.org) – an international leader in medical research of Chiari malformation, syringomyelia and related disorders. The Kane Firm provides administrative and accounting support to the organization.

Column of Hope will be hosting the 14th Working Towards a Day Without Pain gala on October 8th, 2016 at the Buffalo Marriott Niagara.

With the support of friends, family and The Kane Firm employees, the galas have raised nearly $750,000 to date.  Spearheaded by Mark Kane, Column of Hope has translated donated funds into a grand total of 22 published studies; 5 studies in 2016 alone. Producing ground breaking studies on a tight budget is how we are Solving the CM/SM Puzzle, Buffalo Style.

In true Buffalo spirit, volunteers band together every year to ensure that each donated dollar is as impactful as possible.  The hard work and dedication of the volunteers has paid off, allowing Column of Hope to keep administrative costs well under 1% while closely monitoring strategic research funding efforts.

Minimizing administrative costs and maximizing research funds continue to advance our efforts to solve the CM/SM puzzle. We hope that we are close to isolating the cellular cause of CM, which will potentially lead to the development of a method to actually prevent CM from occurring. Researchers have also made progress identifying the actual mechanism of the infamous Chiari headache and how CM causes SM.  Finally, researchers developed a new technique to produce 3D images of the perivascular space allowing us to better study the structure around the central canal and CSF flow in syringomyelia. Dr. Marcus Stoodley of Macquarie University, Australia will join us to present his most recent findings.

Each accomplishment has brought us one step closer to bringing effective treatments to real patients in pain. The Buffalo community will once again stand together on October 8, 2016 to stop the pain, find a cure and change peoples’ lives!
